  1. Had a kid today at work through a tantrum. He was older so I thought maybe
he was autistic. It didn’t phase me at all because even though I don’t have
children I understand. After they left though people were making comments

  2. I have a 21/2 year old that is just now hitting that wonderful stage we all
refer to as the terrible two’s. Here’s what I did to prepare for the
inevitable toddler “moment” in public. I cut up an old yoga mat into a
small enough piece to fit in my purse and explained to him that if he
misbehaves in public he will have a time out. Having been a kindergarten
teacher for 15 years, I guess I just have that look that says…don’t even
try it because you know I will enforce a time out. If I ever feel
embarrassed to discipline while in public, I usually make eye contact with
the first woman I see that could have had kids…the best is a
grandma….I’ll just say, “well time for a little toddler teaching
lesson”….most women will applaud your effort to attempt healthy
discipline strategies in public. Please don’t be afraid to discipline your
children, their future teachers will thank you for it :)

  3. The only thing I don’t agree with is that a few of the ladies say that it’s
aggravating to see a mother not ‘trying.” When my children throw tantrums,
I ignore it.. completely. If it continues to go on, I bring them to the
car. But I will NOT feed into the tantrum by “trying” to make it better.
And I am a very hands on, attachment parenting parent.

  4. Oh this is such a hard one. Each of my kids get a little different tactic.
They are all so different. Fortunately for me, my youngest is 8 and we
really don’t have to deal with it anymore. But when I see other moms and
kids out in public, I never, never assume what might be behind. I could be
poor parenting, but it could be something more. I always give the benefit
    of the doubt.

  5. my dad used to shout at me and i would stop doing what i was doing and
listen to him. Now when he tells me off i just laugh at him. I think its
    just because I’m older.

  6. I feel like most mothers (particularly when they’re kid is in their teenage
years) don’t understand that some kids don’t do well with being yelled at
and it can make them hide away more and grow further and further away from
    their parents.

  7. I am a baby sitter and one of the families has a boy that pretends to be a
gangster rapper he is black and I understand kids think they are cool but I
tell him to stop jumping on the bed and he said I will bust a cap is this
somthing to tell his parents about. His friend sometimes is over and is so
well behaved.Maybe because he is from a larger mexican family with older
    siblings.

  8. I loved this episode 🙂 I would really love to know your opinions on the
increasing age of women starting with having children.

  9. I think that no matter who you are, how many kids you have, what parenting
techniques you use, etc. you are always going to be judge by the trolls.
And sometimes in your lifetime, you yourself will be a troll. It is a
vicious cycle. I myself am not even sure if I want children in the future
(I’m 25 and seriously thinking I don’t want to be a parent) and feel
judgment from a few people even when I calmly mention I MIGHT not want
children. Everyone is judging everyone. Just do the best you can with your
life and your family, and remind yourself that the person judging isn’t any
better than you. Do your best to cut others slack and hope others will do
    the same.

  10. My son mad I were at my nephews soccer game and at halftime he goes and
lays in the middle of the field and would not get up even when the players
started coming back out onto the field and everyone was like get him off
the field now he was 2 and I had no idea what to do so I melt down next to
him and said you better get up right now or I will pick you up and drag you
off and he got up and just ran back to our seats and he was all good

  11. Usually the kids i look after are really good and there aren’t any
problems, but around Christmas when they’re tired and excited just waiting
for the season i’ve had to pull out the “watch it or i’ll call Santa!”
Didn’t you know all moms and babysitters get a direct number to his
    workshop? haha

  12. I love Angel! Not to be a goodie-two-shoes, but me and my older sister and
brother was always very good in public and you know – not all kids throw
fits and are crazy in public so. Some kids are good, like we were.

  13. My parents always tell me they were very fortunate with me because I barely
had any meltdowns in public. They tell this story all the time how when I
couldn’t get this toy I went to the nearest corner/wall stood there and
kicked the wall for a minute. haha but any other times I had crocodile
tears flowing but very quiet all the way home.
I’m a nanny right now saving to go back to school for another degree and
i’m not sure if its the nice person in me but I hate! i mean HATE! yelling
at someone elses kid but I feel its the only way they will respect me and
allow me to care for them just as if their parents were home. I care for a
18mo toddler and 3mo baby during the day and 10yr, 4yr, and 2yr olds some
weeknights and weekends so my hands are full. when it comes to discipline I
will never hit them but i’m constantly shouting and I am soft spoken like
Kayli is. To a sense I understand what its like to play that mother role
and I do my very best to avoid going out in public, unfortunately when I do
I bribe the little ones with candy, but I always have sympathy for that mom
with a crying baby or tantrum toddler.

  14. There was a time recently in a used book store when I listened to this guy
saying to his daughter over and over, was she happy, she had ruined his
day, and on and on. She was crying quietly. I have no idea what she was
upset over or what she may or may not have done but he was being so ugly
and I so wanted to smack him across the back of the head and hug that
little girl. She may have been 4 or younger. I hope for her sake he was
just having a very bad day and that sort of talk isn’t a part of her daily
life. Her mom was there too and never said a word.

  15. Hi TMV
In the uk the doctor was the total opposite of the coin regarding having
more children. I only have one daughter who at 4 was diagnosed with Autism.
We came to the decision not to have any more, and my doctor was like “are
you really sure”? Then he refused to let me be sterilised due to my age, so
poor husband had to have a vasectomy.
We found that once we’d had one, people started asking when we’d have a
second. I felt it was nothing to do with anyone but us. I miscarried
between our daughter showing signs of autism and the diagnosis happening. I
hurt so badly (my mum died 6 weeks later) that I didn’t want to risk it
    again 🙁
I get lots of comments from people who don’t know about my daughters
condition about the way we parent. Our neighbour made comment on how
flippant we are with each other. I have to explain things in every detail
for her, and sometimes it does seem flippant. But what annoyed me most is
that said neighbour doesn’t have children.
My sister in law is pregnant with her first baby. I gave her the two gems
of experience my mother gave to me. “Welcome to the world where you worry
about your child from the day they are born till the minute you die” and
“in those first few days you have to take the time to get to know each
other, it won’t be perfect from day one”.
I am now the mother of a 12 year old, and I find this phase quite hard
because of the autism. She doesn’t seem to be having a good time with
mother nature, and I find thr tears harder to deal with than the periods
    etc.
I always watch the show, you all make ot feel like we are all sat in the
    living room chatting over coffee.
