Depends what asteroid you found. IT could be worth millions or trillions.
If I got this internship this is what my day would look like, go to work
and work on mining rocks in space, then go home and mine rocks in EVE
online. YAY! space mining! lol
not really. They had a more cinematic video, but that’s it. They aren’t
backed by billionaires, they have no notable scientists behind them and
they have no craft built yet.
it seems highly unlikely that you would make enough money off mining an
asteroid to even cover the technology needed to mine it, let alone the
materials needed to launch this project. Notice how I left out making a
profit, that is because they wouldn’t. Strange idea.
Apparantly in their other video they mention that one asteroid may contain
more platanium then has ever been mined in human history. Also the water
they gather may help further missions into space. Apparantly they put the
profit at some billions, if it all works out.
I want to do this. I’m about to enter college too, 😀
The average 100m diameter asteroid would be worth upwards of 100 billion
and there are thousands of them. The fuel gained from water from teh
asteroids would be worth thousands per kg and would supply fuel to space
stations and orbiting satellites. The metals mined can be used to build
craft IN SPACE, meaning their only launches would be their first launches,
at a cost of at most 50 million dollars. it’s a very lucrative industry and
you’d be a fool to ignore it.

Yeah a rugbyf0rlife said, really all DSI has right now is a shiny video,
but it is still awesome that they are there in the first place. Brand new
industry and the mover people jump in, the faster it will get off the
ground, literally.
